Statue of liberty is located in liberty island in New York. It was a gift from the people of France to represent friendship between France and the United Stated of America during the American colonies' struggle for freedom from Great Britain. France started the statue in 1875 and it was completed in June 1884 and it was presented by France on July 4th, 1885. The height of the statue from her heel to the top of her head is 111 feet and 6 inches. The face on the Statue of Liberty measures more than 8 feet tall. The statue, called "Liberty Enlightening the World", has become an international symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty became a national monument in 1924 and a Wolrd Heritage Site in 1984, the year in which restoartion efforts began on it. The restored statue was re-opened to the public on july 5, 1986. The statue's symbols include: the seven rays of the crown, which represent the seven seas and continents of the world, the Torch of Freedom, which she holds in her right hand, and a tablet, whish she holds in her left hand , representing the Declaration of Independence, with the date July 4, 1776 written on it in Roman numerals. The broken chain near her feet represents the victory of liberty over tyranny. Before september 11th terrorist attack you could go inside and climb up to her top head. After the terroist attack you couldn't do any of those thing. It reopened at july 4th 2009.
